Therapy for Racial and Cultural Concerns

Culturally Responsive Therapy | Therapy for Racial Identity | Warrenville

From Therapists with Lived Experience | Therapy near Naperville | S & J Wellness | 60555

Cultural competency is the understanding of various cultures and races, and being able to communicate and treat without prejudice , stereotypes, or preconceived notions impacting the relationship. Cultural Competency is a term that is often used in combination with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

At S & J Wellness, PLLC, it is our mission to provide culturally aware and culturally responsive therapy for ethnic, religious, socioeconomic status, and gender status. We do not simply make these statements to convince clients we are competent. We live this everyday. We engage in attending trainings on cultural humility and the co-owner provides professional training to other professionals on these topics in the community.  The owners also have lived experience with navigating the physical and mental health system as minoritized people and lived experience is not something that you can read about in a book.

We understand the nuances involved with building a culturally responsive relationship with the Latinx and Black community. We recognize the collective trauma some of our minoritized clients have encountered and continue to endure. We respect all and do our due diligence to explore and understand how a clients racial ethnic or cultural concerns and experiences can impact the counseling relationship as well as your lived experiences.

At S & J Wellness, PLLC we believe in utilizing tenets from relational-cultural therapy. It is a relationship centered and culturally oriented form of therapy (Jordan, 2010), where the main focus is building a positive attachment with the client while reducing isolation that include social justice concerns such as racial ethnic and classism. Our therapists understand the need to broach and openly discuss oppressive systems that impact marginalized populations while giving them a safe space to process their concerns. We also provide Therapy for Racial Identity.

Our therapists at S & J Wellness, PLLC are culturally responsive and understand people yearn to be understood, accepted, and validated when it comes to their cultural views and beliefs. We recognize cultural differences, and take active steps to communicate empathically with our clients. Call us to find out how we can help.
